Scale refers to the relationship between the furniture and the space where it is placed. A tiny chair in a large room will look awkward because it is out of scale. Fit the chair to the space. A good rule of thumb is to place a large chair in a large room and a small chair in a small room.
One area that you can truly save money in when it comes to decorating your office is in your visitor seating area. Most offices have a waiting area or even an "in-office" sofa. Most people turn directly to a high priced showroom sofa for these needs. While certainly you can find some bargains even in these high priced showrooms, the return on your investment is still likely to be very thin. Most of what you are paying for in a high priced showroom is the name attached to the furniture.
Other offices go the opposite direction in choosing a couch for their office and waiting area. The ready to assemble, or RTA market, is a very cheap alternative traditionally. The problem with this type of furniture is that you often get what you pay for -- cheap plywood or particle board furniture that will not last more than a year in many cases.
These custom-built RTA furniture manufacturers do not only offer outstanding small and large sofa options. They also offer Ottomans, love seats, sleeper sofa options for those long nights at the office, chairs and even accentuating options such as throw pillows. Each of these things can be worked beautifully into your office furniture decor, and do so while keeping you firmly within your budget. Be sure to check out the options available before blowing your budget on a ridiculously high showroom sofa or chair.
The first thing that you need to do to maximize your space is to figure out which furniture pieces you want to keep. This is usually determined by thinking about how the furniture will actually function within the space. For example, if you live in a small studio apartment they would not make much sense to keep a large dining room table. Making these decisions is not always easy as many people become very attached to certain pieces. Some may even have generational value or sentimental attachment. If you find that you have pieces that are not a good fit for your small apartment, then you should look into storing them are passing them along to another family member.
If you have a lot of natural light in the room, its pretty safe to go with darker colored furniture. If you have a limited window light resource, then going with dark furniture may make you feel like youre walking into a cave. Here I would suggest white, light brown, beige, or any lighter colors for a more comfortable and open feeling bedroom.
